We had an amazing group of ladies make the journey out to sunny San Diego, and we experienced near perfect conditions with the weather between 60 and 85 for the whole duration of the retreat. As always, the ladies worked hard in the morning on different strokes, followed by doubles strategy drills/exercises and point play. After three days of team completetion, the score ended extremely close with only a handful of sets separating the two teams, but in the end, it was the Hot Hot Swingers, Captained by Travis Roberts, who came out on top. The Ally Cats finished an honorable second, captained by Rob Lowe and Martin Availia.
Off court highlights included dinner on Thursday night at Vigiluccis Steak and Seafood. We had an early dinner overlooking the Pacific Ocean with the intent to experience the local night life in Carlsbad. However, some of the group decided to head back to the resort and have an early night while others in the group closed down the lobby bar in the wee’ hours. The Saturday awards show was held in a unique “Theater” style room at the resort, bringing back memories from college and high school for many.
I would like to personally thanks everyone who made the commitment to join us at the years Cliff Drysdale Tennis Women’s Retreat at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa. Everyone who attended made it one of the best weeks in tennis and one of my favorite weeks of the year. I look forward to seeing everyone again next year.
