From the Director's Desk

We just completed our busy spring retreat season with retreats across the country at Omni Rancho Las Palmas, Omni La Costa and Omni Amelia Island Plantation! One part of the retreats that I love and am constantly reminded of is the connections that alumni make across the country. I love it when these friendships extend beyond the retreat weeks and into the year. I received an email last week from an alumni thanking us for a great retreat and she mentioned how her and her roommate where planning a road trip to visit other alumni from their recent retreat. I saw photos online of an alumni from the Midwest on a work trip to a city where other alumni live and they got together for tennis and to

The Return of Dr. Menzies

1.) What did you miss most about CDT while you were back in New Zealand? The amount of people that share the same love of the game that I do and believe in the same teaching philosophy. New Zealand is fantastic but the amount of adults that want to learn and improve is much smaller. 2.) Did you take any medical classes to give your tile Dr. Menzies merit? I have honorary degrees in Canadian Studies and Poultry Science, but the name came from my ability to fix pretty much anything… on the tennis court (although it never hurts to get a second opinion) 3.) What were the highlights of the La Costa and Amelia Island Retreats? The highlights were as follows (in no particular order): 1) Da

Captain Spotlight: Albert Fernandez

1) Why do you think you were chosen for the CDT Captain Spotlight? I would like to think that it is because of my hard work and dedication, but everyone knows that it is because of my good looks and charming personality, but at times I am almost certain that it is because of my Ben Wallace hair do. 2.) How many people did you pay off to receive this honor? The count of people is obscure as I had to pay some people to pay some people. Some others were bribed. A few were blackmailed. 3.)What is something our campers should know about you? I was a paramedic for the Miami-Dade Fire Department for 6 years. 4.)What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing tennis? I like to ride m

Rookie on the Radar: Catherine Lipinksy

1.) Where are you from? Minneapolis, MN 2.) Favorite shot and why? I love my forehand. It's my most consistent shot - I can use it to keep a point going with a deep cross course shot or as a weapon with a down-the-line approach. 3.) What was your favorite part of the retreat? Without a doubt, I loved all of the tennis play, from drills in the am to match play on the afternoon. I can't remember when I got to play that much tennis in one day! 4.) Was the retreat what you expected? The retreat ended up being so much more than I expected. The friendships I made with the other woman and pros was a surprise -- I can't wait to get together again in the near future and share our love of ten

Alumni Advice: Martha Davis

1.) Where are you from? NW Suburb of Chicago 2.) What is your favorite shot and why? Overhead, especially on a poach. I love the one-two punch of my partner setting me up for a put away. 3.) What's your favorite retreat location? It’s almost impossible to pick as I LOVE THEM ALL! You can’t go wrong with any of them. But if forced to choose, I will have to say Miami as that was my first Ladies Retreat experience – the entire week was fun, fun, fun and I could not stop smiling the entire time. I was VERY sad when the week ended. 4.)What is your favorite retreat memory? Again this is very hard to answer as there are so many to pick from, so I will name a few. In Miami I will always
