A New Era at Wyndham Grand Rio Mar

Set between the beaches of the Atlantic and the lush landscape of the rainforest, the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Puerto Rico Resort has entered an exciting new chapter. In 2025, the resort began its first major renovation since 2017, investing $55 million to elevate the guest experience with remodeled amenities, new additions, and refreshing upgrades to the property's multi-sport racquets center.

Inspired by the nearby El Yunque National Forest, the redesign blends coastal elegance with the serenity of the rainforest. Guest rooms and suites were refreshed with a more modern, comfortable design, while several amenities across the resort received significant upgrades.

Three of the property’s four pools were renovated, including the addition of a new adults-only pool and a revitalized Beach Club. Located steps from the ocean, the Beach Club now offers a vibrant yet relaxed atmosphere where families and guests can unwind in a lively beachfront setting.

One of the most exciting additions is the Xplorers Club, an activity program inspired by the region’s natural environment. Guests can take part in immersive experiences such as kayaking along the scenic Mameyes River, exploring local ecosystems, and stargazing under Puerto Rico’s clear night skies.

The resort’s racquet center also underwent a major upgrade. All 11 clay courts were resurfaced to improve playability and durability, complete with fresh lines and professional-grade nets. Two hard courts were renovated to include six pickleball courts with a new acrylic surface that provides consistent bounce and improved comfort. The courts now feature clear markings for both tennis and pickleball, along with the appropriate nets for each sport.

Additional improvements focused on player comfort and court performance. New canopies were installed at every court to provide shade and protection from the elements, while custom windscreens help reduce wind interference and enhance the facility’s overall look. A new drainage system was added to courts three and four to prevent water buildup and allow a faster return to play after rain.

The center also expanded its lighting, adding six new lighted courts and bringing the total to ten. A modern LED lighting system provides consistent, glare-free visibility, allowing players to enjoy the courts well into the evening.
